Plan Shymbulak access, gondola tickets, clearly labelled ski-pass reference prices, SnowCrew coaching and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night skiing.

Shymbulak is a popular ski resort in the mountains above Almaty, Kazakhstan. Getting there is relatively straightforward, with several transport options depending on whether you’re travelling with ski equipment or visiting for sightseeing.

A direct electric taxi can be the most convenient option if a driver accepts the mountain destination. Otherwise, the most reliable route is via Medeu Base Station, where you can continue to Shymbulak by gondola or eco-bus. Keep in mind that pedestrian gondola tickets are intended for sightseeing, while skiing and snowboarding require a ski pass.

>Quick Answer: You can try booking a direct ride to or from Shymbulak using Yandex Go Electro, but availability depends on the vehicle and whether the driver accepts the destination. If you’re carrying skis or a snowboard, inform the driver about your equipment before pickup. Alternatively, travel to Medeu Base Station and continue by gondola or eco-bus.

>Night skiing is scheduled on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Check the resort’s latest operating schedule before your visit, as sessions may change depending on weather and mountain conditions.

ALA / Almaty → Shymbulak

One convenient way to reach Shymbulak is to book a direct ride using Yandex Go Electro from Almaty city or Almaty International Airport (ALA).

This option allows you to travel directly toward the resort without changing transport at Medeu. However, availability depends on finding a suitable electric vehicle and a driver willing to accept the mountain destination.

Enter Shymbulak as your destination in the app. If you’re travelling with skis or a snowboard, let the driver know the number and length of your equipment bags before pickup to make sure everything fits.

If a direct ride isn’t available, the most reliable alternative is to travel via Medeu Base Station.

RouteTransport Options & Details
Almaty → MedeuTake a taxi or private car via Dostyk Avenue, or use public buses 12 or 21.
Public Bus ScheduleApproximately 07:00–20:00 daily, with departures around every 30 minutes. Check the latest timetable before travelling.
Medeu → ShymbulakContinue by gondola or the resort’s eco-bus shuttle.
Eco-Bus Fare800 KZT per person, one way, based on the published fare. The shuttle operates between the Medeu skating rink area and Shymbulak.

What’s the difference between Yandex Go Electro and the eco-bus?

Yandex Go Electro is an electric taxi service booked through the app, subject to vehicle availability and driver acceptance. The eco-bus is a separate resort shuttle operating along the Medeu–Shymbulak mountain road.

> SnowCrew Tip: If you’re arriving at ALA with luggage or ski equipment, a direct taxi or pre-booked private transfer is usually the easiest option. If you’re travelling via Medeu, allow extra time for the transfer and check gondola or eco-bus operating hours before departure.

Shymbulak → Almaty / ALA

For your return journey, you can try booking a Yandex Go Electro pickup directly from Shymbulak to Almaty city or Almaty International Airport.

As with the outbound journey, direct pickup is not guaranteed. It depends on vehicle availability and whether the driver accepts the route. If you’re carrying ski or snowboard equipment, confirm that your bags will fit before the driver arrives.

If a direct ride isn’t available, take the gondola or eco-bus down to Medeu, then continue to Almaty or ALA by taxi or private transfer.

If you’re catching a flight, allow plenty of time for the mountain connection, city traffic, and loading your equipment. A pre-arranged private transfer is generally the more reliable option when your schedule is tight.

> Good to Know: A full-day ski pass includes access to the Medeu–Shymbulak gondola, so skiers and snowboarders with a valid pass don’t need to purchase a separate pedestrian gondola ticket for the same journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I budget for a Shymbulak ski pass in 2026/27?

This guide does not have a confirmed 2026/27 ski-pass price table. Use the 2025/26 figures only for rough budgeting and check the current tickets and tariffs before paying.

How do I travel between ALA or Almaty and Shymbulak?

Try a direct Yandex Go Electro ride, but do not rely on it as guaranteed: the vehicle must suit the trip and the driver must accept the mountain destination. Specify ski or snowboard bags before pickup. The fallback in either direction is to travel via Medeu, using the gondola or resort eco-bus for the Medeu–Shymbulak section and a taxi or private transfer between Medeu and the city or airport.

When does Shymbulak night skiing run?

Night skiing runs every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 19:00–23:00. Evening lifts, pistes and rental points can differ from daytime operations.
